Job Title Salary Survey
Military Officer Salary information is set by congress. Compensation includes a significant amount of benefits, insurance, medical, family, special pay. Soldiers are generally well-provided-for. Retirement after 20 years and future double-dipping authorization for future government pensions allows one to draw an Army retirement and civil service pension concurrently. Government housing is a strong benefit; however, it is difficult for soldiers to build equity. The primary downfall is that compensation is based on rank and time in service, not performance or position, and there are no bonuses or negotiation opportunities. Strong performers are generally directed to more difficult positions, but one can not expect increased compensation.
