I've been with Unisys (formerly Burroughs) for nearly 24 years. As an
employer, they've been good to me, but it has been a tough place to work
due to the amount of change the company has gone through. In 1986 we
had 120,000 employees and today we have approx. 36,000.
The culture has changed dramatically from a hardware provider to one of
a sevices-led, technology based one. About 50% of our employees have
now been at Unisys less than 5 years. Our culture is now one of
a "melting pot" of a lot of people that have worked other places and
frankly don't understand the true legacy of our firm and what made us
sucessful.
Diversity: The IT world is still pretty symbiotic of male dominated,
white collar. We are culturally diverse, but not to a high degree.
Hours: In my line of work, hours are not the measure, productivity is.
There is no limit as to hours because of being a commissioned sales
person.
Dress code: Is fine. Business casual in the field offices, but if you
come to home office you better wear a suit!
Opportunities: In this regard we are struggling. Opportunities come
with growth and we are not growing as a company. The good news is we
are holding our own through a lot of dramatic and painful cost cutting.
Our revenue is still declining slowly.
