This was the most depressing and poorly run bank since I began my
banking career in 1984. Customers were leaving in droves, staff was
depressed, scared and in a save yourself mode. The managers were
abusive, goals were beyond anyones ability to attain. Support was
unacceptable. I even had to go to Walmart to buy my own office supplies
without reimbursement. We were told not to order business cards until
the next quarter so our numbers would look better. Employees moral was
so low that loud agruments would break out such that I had to move to
another area to talk to customers on the phone. With the reorganization
my new boss decided I needed to drive to his office one hour away from
my territory each day. The practices did not match our stated policy
such that I was concerned that if we were audited we would have our
doors locked. An example that was unfortunately common: Loan customer
owning the bank over one million dollars with no financial statements in
file, no collateral, and no repayment of principal, only annual interest
owed. This loan was continuously renewed.
