| Branch Sales Manager - Bank Officer |
Union Planters Bank strives to make each employee feel like they are
important and needed. There are times though when employees at the
retail level feel a little detached from the rest of the corporation.
Though the company leans on the montra that the "tellers are the most
important employees" it seems to get lost when doctrines come down from
the "top". Right now we are going through a time when questions are
plentiful and the answers are coming, though maybe a little slower then
the average employee would appreciate. They are keeping us informed as
we head into this merger of equals, but there is still that unknown
aspect of business that keeps each employee on their toes. Switching
subjects now, UP as a whole does a very good job of being diversified.
Just walking into a branch will help anyone see that message loud and
clear. Hours vary from region to region, but for the most part, things
are held on a normal schedule of 9-5 M-R and 9-6 on F, with some
Saturday/Sunday hours. Dress code is professional M-R and Business
casual on Friday/Sat/Sun. As in all financial institutions should be,
formal business wear is very important as it does give the customer a
sense of professionalism. Now, on to opportunities for advancement.
Once inside the doors of UP some people find it very easy to move up the
corporate ladder, while other seem to struggle. The main reason for
this may be the education barrier. Employees that have been with the
company for many years may find it difficult to move into a management
role without having the higher level degree. Some FSRs even find it
difficult to move into retail management with a degree. Once you have
hit the management level as a retail manager there is almost a ceiling
that doesn't allow any movement. To move into the corporate side of the
bank they want certain things that even college educated individuals
might not have obtained. Now, I am not against further oneself with
advanced education, I am just having trouble understanding how an
intelligent employee with 5-10 years worth of experience can not be
advanced in this company. Outside of that things here are great and
hopefully will be even better within the next year or so.
