The Union Pacific seems to be short sighted. Short term gains during
the slow years were obtained by cutting jobs and not replacing
employees from natural attrition. Now that the economy is improving,
demand has never been greater for our services. This company is
actually turning away new business because it cannot handle the demand.
The lack of manning and equipment needed is not in place. This company
has wiped out the short term gains made over the course of the slow
years buy not being in position to capitalize on the current demand.
Many of us joke about the company leadership dropping a dollar to grab
a quarter because it's shiny.
