At the present time I am paid $44.00 per hour and work 105 flight hours
per
month. We are only compensated for the hours flown, not by how many
hours on
duty. We are also given a per diem of $2.00 per hour for every hour
away from
your home base. Vacation is paid at the hourly rate and is accrued in
accordance
with seniority. Vacation usually tops out at 30 to 40 days a year for
the most
senior of flight attendants.
In the begining were were given a $100 bonus at Christmas, however that
ended
with the merger of two airlines. Benefits include free space available
travel
to
any destination that the airline services, discounts on reciprocal
airlines,
discounts at Fed-Ex and many more companies such as hotels and rental car
agencies that are involved with the airline. Major medical and dental
are
provided at a cost to the employee at rates that are 300% higher than in
previous
years. As a flight attendant group, we have taken three pay cuts in the
past
year and a half and are at the renegotiating table for more cuts.
Morale is
quite low at this point as management will not adhere to the current
contract
with the flight attendant group. Contract rules have arbitrarily been
changed
without notice. Once such rule is the current cost of our healthcare.
It was
increased twice this year without regard to the current negotiated
price. Stock
options have proved worthless to us in the past and there is no pension
for the
flight attendants to speak of. At the present time with more pay and
benefit
cuts looming, the morale among the employee group, with the exception of
upper
management, is quite low.
