I went through two rounds of interviews for the summer analyst
position. The first round comprised of two back to back 30 minute
interviews on campus. They were both meant to be highly technical,
however, my interviewer was visibly tired at 8:30am so we skipped the
technical portion. I was asked everything from econometric theory to
depreciation expense and was expected to have a high level discussion
of the economy and interest rates. I was grilled on many concepts I
listed under the coursework section of my resume. The recruiter called
me a few hours after the last interview of the day to inform me of the
results. In the second/final round of interviewing, I had six back to
back interviews with a majority of the analysts in the group as well as
a few senior bankers. The analysts asked me technical questions of all
sorts, most of which dealt with finance. I was also asked about my
majors and specializations. After the technical questions, the
interviews were more conversational where I tried to get to know the
interviewers and where they tried to get to know me as a person.
Some questions they asked include:
1. Why UBS?
2. Why a specific industry group if you indicate a preference
3. How do you value a company?
4. How do the financial statements connect with one another?
5. Major line items on each of the statements
There was also a stress test where the interviewer was completely stoic
and had a negative comment to almost everything that I said. The head
of the office spoke with me after the last interview to give me the
offer. If they want you, they will move quickly.
