UBS Investment Bank continues to develop its presence in the U.S., and
as such provides excellent opportunities for ambitious individuals.
With that said, competent and entrepreneurial analysts have the
opportunity to take on as many projects as they show themselves capable
of handling. The hours were comparable to that of most banks, beginning
at 9am if you don't have early morning conference calls and leave
around 11 or 12 at night. When it gets busy, expect to work until the
wee hours. My group did a lot of pitching, but UBS does a good job
putting its summer analysts on at least one live deal during the 10
week experience. Senior bankers are quite positive. I was told by an
executive director that he appreciates junior bankers making the
attempt to get to know him. As seasoned professionals, they want to
have some type of mentoring role in an informal sense but their
schedules don't always allow them to. Thus, you must take the
initiative to develop relationships with them. I found most of the
senior bankers to be highly approachable and unintimidating. However,
like their counterparts at other banks they did not always take the
time to walk me through pitches and deals. Sometimes, they did ask me
to read through research reports and share my opinion in team meetings.
As an intern, I also was able to attend quite a few meetings from
client meetings to drafting and diligence sessions.
