UBS Investment Bank has develped a large footprint in its sales and
trading efforts. It has been especially successful in competing for
lucrative hedge fund business. In its corproate advisory business
(investment banking) results have been hard fought. the firm regularly
competes with firms that have a longer history in the bulge bracket. In
many industries, most notably Healtcare, it continually wins. However,
there is room for growth in the industries that pay the largest share of
fees on the street: Financial Institutions (FIG) and Global Industrials
(GIG). Strategic hires of senior advisors made before the recession
were expected to help results, and many hope that as the economy picks
up these investments will pay off.
