Tupperware went from an uptight, formal dress code, with little
diversity in 1993 to a more relaxed dress code and a heightened
awareness for diversity by year 2000.
Even though the foundation of Tupperware is women, men hold most of the
higher level management positions. There is still a tendency of senior
management to micro-manage their subordinates, and is a main reason for
turnover. There are opportunities for advancement, but they
will 'humor' interviews with current employees, knowing full that they
want an external candidate. This recently happened to a current
employee within the past month. They interviewed him on a Tuesday, only
to announce the hiring of an external candidate the following day.
I am grateful for the 10 years I got to work with a company that made
most of its' products in the US, but am glad to be 'free' of the
management that made many foolish decisions that adversely affected
their business.
