I was already in the company when I applied for my current position.
Time Inc has a policy where a dept cannot personally seek an employee
from a different division without consulting management first. This
keeps the depts from fighting over employees.
I happenend to be working on a company-wide task force with an employee
from a different title, and heard a rumor that they were hiring. So I
asked her about it, if she thought I would be a good fit, and what the
work was like. She informed me that she was interested in me for the
position, and was hoping I would have spoken with her about it. From
there, she forwarded my resume to the manager of the dept, who sent it
to HR as well, for a basic screening. I then scheduled a meeting with
the manager of the dept, and received a basic understanding of the
position, and what my role would be. I was also given a 'book makeup
quiz' to see if I understood the concept of book makeup. From there, I
met with the director of the production dept, and had a simple
interview, where I was asked why I wanted the job, and what made me
think I would be qualified for it. I also met with a person who would be
my peer in my new role, which was an opportunity for me to ask questions
about day to day tasks, and the like. Then I met with the Director of
the Titles Group, who told me I was highly recommended, and I spoke with
him about some initiatives at my other job I was working on, and just
had a laid back discussion about what I did at my prior job. Finally I
met with HR, for a basic HR interview, where they told me I was a good
fit for the job, but that in terms of pay, I would not receive much more
than I was currently making, mainly due to the amount of overtime I
acrued every year.
