Prior to working in Book Makeup, I worked in Ad Production. This
position is considered non-exempt, which means you are eligible for
overtime. This worked out nicely, for there were many a night when I
stayed past 5. I stayed in that position for 2 years, and then thought
it time to move onto something else. Now I work in Book Makeup. A
typical work week is 35 hours, and now I am an exempt employee which
means I do not qualify for overtime. Slight bummer for days when I work
late. I do have more vacation now (4weeks) so that helps.
There is a fair amount of diversity at Time Inc. I feel that the company
prides itself on having a diverse staff. Dress code is pretty easy
going. Friday's jeans are fine, and during the week, I wear typical
business casual wear.
I feel that there are opportunities for advancement in this company, but
I believe that you have to be the pro-active one about it. You have to
work for a promotion, and if you deserve it, you'll get it. There is
also a fair amount of mobility from one magazine to the next. Job
postings are put up internally the same time as externally, but
typically through word of mouth you can hear about what's happening, and
get your name out there as quickly as possible.
Corporate culture is pretty strong here. The company does a solid job in
keeping employees informed about what's going on throughout the company,
through a weekly Time Warner highlight email. Also, there are many
cultural groups supported by Time which sponsor all sorts of company
activities, many of which are community service related. This is
something I am very glad that we have at this company, b/c they make it
very easy to give back to your community.
