TSYS uses outside recruiters infrequently. They employ recruiters in
their HR Department. TSYS tends to hire locals and those that post on
the web through Monster.Com.
The first round is contact by an HR recruiter. General questions are
asked along the lines of why you are unemployed, why did you become
unemployed, when did you become unemployed, why are you leaving your
current employer, etc.. It is not a detailed interview. If you pass
this round your name is forwarded to the middle and lower level managers
who made the request for the new position. The HR recruiter will remain
the potential employee's company contact throughout the interview
process.
The second round is a phone interview with the lower level manager and
perhaps senior member(s) of the group with the opening. The level of
detail of the questions can be great, and depends on the group and the
manager. The HR recruiter will want to know who your former employers
are
and they require that former employers be contacted and interviewed
about
your employment during this step. They also do a criminal background
check during this step. This tends to be the company's weed-out step in
the process.
The third round is an on-site interview with the middle and lower level
managers, and members of the group. This is usually done a month or more
after the phone interview. Your chances of an offer are pretty good if
you make it to this step. TSYS will usually fly someone in the evening
before, get you a rental car, and put you in a hotel overnight prior to
the interview if you aren't a local. They usually make the arrangements
and pay the bills themselves.
An interviewee will spend most of the following day at TSYS. The HR
recruiter will pick up the interviewee at 8 AM the day of the interview
and take them to a medical clinic for drug testing. After that is
complete the interviewee will be driven to the site the group works and
is interviewed and given a tour of that particular facility. The
interviewee is usually taken out to lunch by the group at the conclusion
of the interview at noon. After lunch the interviewee will be taken on
a
housing tour of the area.
The interviewee is given the opportunity to check out homes to buy or
rental properties from chosen realtors and landlords. This tour is
conducted by a realtor that has ties to TSYS. TSYS does this because
Columbus Georgia has a severe problem with crooked realtors and
landlords. Once the home tour is complete the interviewee is driven back
to the hotel and turned loose.
The third round usually involves very detailed questions (varying by
group). It lasts from the time after the drug test to noon.
If an interviewee survives this round an offer is usually made within a
week of return from the on-site interview. Little negotiation of salary
requirements is tolerated by TSYS. If an interviewee accepts the offer
the HR recruiter will send a great amount of paperwork (W-2's, policies,
procedures) to sign. Also the employment starting date will be
scheduled
and moving arrangements will be made if TSYS is to pay relocation
(moving
truck or movers).
The first 3 days of employment are spent in orientation at the company
headquarters. Then the new employee is sent to their regular workplace
and put to work.
