TIAA-CREF used to be a great company to work for. We had excellent
benefits, including full tuition reimbursement, a relaxed atmosphere,
and job security (no layoffs ever). We cared about the customer,
sometimes to a fault. Like most large companies, we had our problems,
but all in all, people were happy here, as evidenced by the numerous
employees employed over 25 years. Then we got a new CEO in November 2003
and things started to change for what we thought and hoped would be the
better. We couldn't have been more wrong. Favoritism is running rampant
now, and people are being allowed to remain in jobs that they are not
qualified for, and being well compensated, I might add. Now, everyone is
about how they can make themselves look good at any cost, and it is
destroying our future. The people who make important decisions refuse to
hold the people who work for them accountable for anything, and our
service levels are starting to deteriorate as a result. We are in
complete internal chaos, and I fear that if we don't pull out of it
soon, we will never be able to recover. To those people trying to apply
for jobs at TIAA-CREF, I would recommend that you run away as fast as
you can and don't look back.
