In 2002, TD Bank posted a record loss while its competitors were making
profits. Things got better last year, but the outlook for employees
hasn't changed much in my opinion. We hear and see alot internally about
career development and growth and learning new skills and taking control
of your career destiny. If that's true, why are so many of the people I
started working with in this area still here and doing the same thing?
To me, it's lip-service so they don't have to hear about your real goals
and aspirations. In the job opening I applied recently for which was for
a job in my area, and I had all the experience and qualifications for, I
didn't even get an interview before an external candidate was given the
job. This happened despite the fact I had discussed my career goals with
the hiring manager months before and was encouraged to put in my
resume.
Friends have asked me about working for TD Bank, and I've told them to
basically look elsewhere unless I thought they were really hard-up for a
job. People I know who have had the chance to move-on and have what you
could consider a promising career have already done so.
