Synergy has quite a relaxed, friendly and outgoing culture. Oriented
towards high achievers who want to succeed in their jobs. Incentives
and bonuses are offered. Regular company get togethers, such as BBQ's,
quiz nights and so on. Dress is smart casual, aiming more towards the
smart as we regularly have customers present in the offices. The
atmosphere in the office is lively, there is music playing, people chat
often and there is very rarely any tension. Many people listen to music
on their headphones if they want some quiet time to concentrate. Free
drinks are provided for all staff members. My only issue has been
regarding time in lieu after working 80 hour weeks for several months I
was only offered 3 lieu days in return, this hasn't given me much
incentive to work extra hours and I, along with most other people here,
tend to work only a few hours extra a week, and only if necessary.
The training allowance is excellent. Each staff member has up to $3500
per annum to put towards training courses. And the training courses are
not limited to your current position. If you would like to retrain in
another area, perhaps an area where there is a skill shortage, you are
actively encouraged to do this. Staff members are also encouraged to
sit as many exams as possible, and to take part in online training
courses during any quiet time.
Working here is like being a permanent contractor. This is due to
working on many different projects, ranging in time lengths from a few
days to a few months. The longest project I was on lasted 6 months, the
shortest, a few weeks. It's also nice that sometimes you are the team
lead/manager for a project, other times you can take a back seat and
just be a techie.
