Working in the Library is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.
It is a relatively low-stress environment, customers are always happy to
see you, most feedback on staff performance is positive, and the
physical environment is very nice in times of adverse weather.
The uniform policy is loose, and allows for a blend of neat, casual
clothing that help keep everyone happy. Work hours vary according to
roles, with some staff working 7 hour days from 8.30-4.30, other 9.30-
5.30, with time in lieau accruing for those rostered onto after-hours
and weekend opening times.
There is scope for advancement, and an annual performance reveiw system
whereby staff and management have an opportunity to discuss the future
and factor in training needs and skill development.
A recent staff survey revealed that staff were happy with their role in
the organisation, how they are treated by management and rewards systems
in place. Their biggest issue was not having enough resources to
provide even more services to the community!
Staff morale is often highg, but issues arise when the overall situation
is going well; small personality clashes may arise, but these are easily
dealt with and status quo resumes.
