Team Manager I was one of the first nine employees hired for the opening of the Memdphis Tenneesse site. The nine of us were very excited about the road ahead of us. We went through a 3 week training period in Dallas. The "Memphis Nine" as we were referred to had been told that when the time came for appointing mentors and managers that those positions would be filled by us before hiring from the street. That only happened in a few cases. I was one of the lucky ones. I became a "Mentor" for the first client, "BellSouth". As the site grew, so did animosity toward the company. Other clients were added to the roster. I was moved to the "Prodigy" project, and promoted to team manager. I enjoyed working at Stream, unfortunately neither the job nor the evironment was the same. Everything had gone from the needs of the customers, to the needs of the clients (ie., Bellsouth, Prodigy, Gateway, etc.,) it wasn't as important to keep the customers satisfied as it was to keep the client happy. Quality of technicians had fallen drastically. I was involved in part of the interviewing process. As one of the first techs in the building, I tried to maintain the same quality of abilities that was expected from me and the other "Memphis Nine". Seventy-five percent of the time my suggestions and input in hiring, was overlooked or ignored. The hiring was focused on the "political" aspect of employees, not the intelligence or technical ability. Working for Stream wasn't fun anymore, it was just a job. In my opinion, if you don't enjoy what you do for a living, find something else to do... luckily I was let go in August of 99'. I'm still not real sure why... the paperwork adhered to the number of call monitorings that I did... I know for a fact that other "TMs" had done less. At any rate, what was done, was done. I stayed in touch with a few of the folks there for a while. I knew for periodic updates, that Stream Memphis was going to be short lived. It was only a matter of time. After the company became so poilitical, and the quality of service started degrading... the end was inevitable. All in all Stream was a great experience in business, and in life. Not to mention I met my wife there.
