Hired to convert client server app. to web based program. No direction
given as to technology, language, platform to use. I chose Java (J2EE)
and made the project successful. Very poor management. No direction
given, no IT standards (language, platform, operating system(s),
Databases). Poor management guidance on projects. After about 18
months and 3-6 manager changes, another manager came in. She
micromanaged. So much paper and beaurocracy that 1/2 the time spent in
paperwork and the other half being productive and developing software.
Dress code, business casual. Very few opportunities for advancement.
Not very family friendly. One co-worker's wife was expecting a baby
and they wanted him in to work a few days before her due date. Many
women in Mangement and IT. The Management doesn't know / understand
IT, average age is 45-50 years old. Most people only stay there until
they retire from PERA (retirement plan). Or because they have outdated
skills and cannot find another job.
