Corporate Culture was very secretive - the proverbial "mushroom
syndrome" applied to all the staff. Management seemed to constantly
make random decisions that seemed counterintuitive and counterproductive
to the issues at hand. The token "employee appreciation" events were
artificial and insulting. There was constant talk of "teamwork"
and "employee empowerment," but in fact the only "teamwork" was doing
what your boss told you to do without question and making sure you
didn't embarrass others in your department, even if the incompetence
and/or negligence of those in your department were the cause of problems
that others in the company were suffering. My experience is that the
entire IT department operates on a "CYA / Pass the Buck" basis, rather
than focusing on solving problems for the users. And IT management
seemed far more obsessed with building budget empires than having user
needs efficiently met.
