When I started in 1998 this was in incredible place to work. The pace
and enthusiasm was tangible. The company was caught up in the tech
bubble, and new projects, and opportunities were cropping up
everywhere. Talented people experienced extreme upward mobility in very
short time periods. Morale was good, and the corporate culture was
aggressive, but employee friendly.
In the last two years the telecom industry has been hit hard. Sprint is
struggling to find a long-term competitive position for its products.
They have little to differentiate themselves by after the fall of ION
and dashed hopes of a once industry leading wireless position. Layoffs
have been widespread. People are very worried about their jobs. I
anticipate the situation will get much worse before it is better.
