Sodexho is a leading food service and facilities contractor of services
in a variety of settings. They set up and operate contracts in
hospitals, business and industry, schools, universities, along with
remote sites. They have the disney corporate grounds as a large and
prestigious account along with the vatican in rome and some extreme
accounts, like oil rigs out on the ocean. They operate in 74 countries
with 150,000 employees.
As a large contractor company, alot of the actual culture is determined
by where the contract is operated (ie hospital, business, school, etc).
Then within the company, the GM and DM along with HR will define
messages from sodexho. Communication and diversity are very valued.
Numerous emails, phone messages, flyers, etc, etc are put out on
different opportunities and then what is required to help maintain
professionalism and feel a part of the corporate culture. Opportunity
for advancement is dependant on alot of things, but one major factor is
how well you follow some of the sodexho guidelines and suggested
training (ie diversity, EEO/AA,etc)
Food service, in general is a field that requires alot of supervision,
many labor hours and stressful situations. Hours worked can average at
55-60 in the hospital setting. Getting alot from a little is how
hospitals are asked to run in todays workforce. THis is no exception.
The downside is an operations manager has to serve "two gods" sodexho
and the hospital. Hopefully everyone agrees on what needs to be done
and there is no disagreement. This is where contracting gets hairy.
Overall sodexho is a good company that will meet an employee half-way,
but doesn't go above and beyond to treat you special.
