The culture hadn't progressed much past the 60's or 70's. Westinghouse
was winning big jobs while there were plenty to go around, but when the
market got tight, they couldn't win anything. Most of their Sales and
Marketing people understood turbines but were clueless about power
plants.
After 5 years on the brink of bankruptcy, Siemens bought Westinghouse.
They did nothing for 3 years. Then they started laying off the younger
workers and the old-timers with 35-40 years of Westinghouse stayed to
run the "new" company. The Germans with their Anti-American views and
their strange, nazi-like culture think they will sell to Americans. We
shall see.
