Business outlook: The Auto centers, and Sears tools (craftsman),
appliances (Kenmore, etc.), and electronics is the only profiting
divisions in the chain. The rest of the store is non-profiting. Profit
is generated by buying out competition (I.e. Land's End, an up and
coming competitor). Profit from "snow-balling credit card's finance
charges. Photo Studio LOSES money. It almost seems as if they run
their competition dry. Meaning the prices are so low that the
competition goes bankrupt trying to keep up (Ie. K-Mart, Caldor, and
some of Pergaments which is a home improvement chain beat up by Home
Depot as well). Sears has in fact taken over some of these stores and
excels by eliminating the competition or buying them out.
Sears prides themselves with their customers on their long-standing
reputation and existence. You shop there; your parents shopped there,
their parents shopped there and so on.
