The finance area is no longer what it used to be. When I started, it
was a WONDERFUL place to work for in finance. However, upper
management has been changing slowly (oputsiders coming in from GE and
consulting firms) and their "committment to employees" is just words,
now. The finance organization is restructered every few months and
upper managers/directors are extremely micromanaging (to the point
where you don't know if they're simply not busy enough with their own
work load or if they're trying to scrutinize the quality of your
work). We've been told that "finance folks shoudl work a minimum of 60
hours a week" otherwise we've got too many in the organziation. The
next thing? A loss of approximately 80% of the finance jobs at local
plants due to consolidation of all finance activities to the Nashville
(operations) headquarters. While I'm all for efficiency &
productivity, management is doing their consolidation very haphazardly;
they have yet to understand all the intricacies and impact, as well as
interaction of finance systems to other/production systems that will be
affected when the local jobs are centralized to Nashville.
