More and more of the manufacturing locations are being shut down and
the production is moved over seas. Finance related jobs are still
available, but not as plentiful as they were at one point. Plant-level
experience is becoming less relavent. Upper Management is losing focus
on its goals. Rather than expanding the business and listening to its
customers, it's too wrapped up in headcount reductions. There is still
hope that the company will survive and flourish. However, it has taken
management too long to realize that they were losing market share
because, with the economy going south, so the customer demand for "high
priced" electrical distribution products. GE & CuttlerHammer have
caught up with our quality many years ago...and the customers know it,
now. The good news is that Square D is moving towards some of the more
advanced technologies, such as home security and wiring solutions.
However, in order to become truly great at something, you need to focus
on it and get rid of the "distracting" divisions. I do not see that
mentality in upper management, yet. What I do see is complete absence
of manufacturing in the US 5 years from now.
