Tenure and abuse of the priviledge dominates my work atmosphere. My
position is not subject to it however, I constantly watch how it is
abused while impeding both progress and education.
Professors using their position to have students do chores or work them
or face a negative impact on their grade.
Professors abusing equipment that belongs to the department even taking
it home without permission to do so and returning it broken.
Professors refusing to submitt receivers to the department accountants
as proof of purchase.
Professors refusing submitt equipment purchased by the department to the
department for inventory and accounting purposes.
Professors submitting ambigious, confusing, information to student
workers and assistants.
Professors not troubleshooting their own experiments while expecting
inexperienced students and assistants to do it for them.
Political bikering and differences within departments and between
departments. Professors are so busy with their differences they don't
realize how they appear to the students, like phony selfish children.
Poor treatment of staff members by faculty members. Faculty members
continuing efforts of manuevering or trying to trap staff members within
their departmental differences. Professor X would fight to get a
personal closet while the department as a whole needed the closet for
storage space. Professor X coming in one day and unloading much of the
closet's contents in a staff member's office and then going away for the
summer leaving staff members to deal with the mess
Poor communication with staff members by faculty members make for long
counter productive work hours. Faculty blaming staff members for their
mistakes behind their backs but in front of the students.
Professors taking credit for the work that staff members had done or
were doing
Very little diversity. There are very few minority staff or faculty
members.
There is no opportunity for advancement.
