Working at RiteAid leaves much to be desired - mostly in the area of
compensation. The corporation refuses to pay comparable to what others
are receiving. This is especially true if you are promoted from
within. The
only way to get a raise to make you equal to others in your field is to
quit
and come back or walk in with an offer letter from another company.
Come
time for promotion they always have the excuse that they don't have
enough
money. This is after several months emails announcing that VP X was
promoted to SVP, or we've hire Y as VP of department...
In my case, I'm on my second career after years in the military. That
was a very rewarding and successful career, but it
had to end eventually. Now I've been in the IT field for a couple of
years. I've progressed rather well and am considered by
myself and my manager to be a mid-level admin. However, I'm a good 20%
behind in compensation with my peers.
So, how is it to work at RiteAid? If you have the qualifications and the
salesmanship, get everything that you can up front if you're looking to
hire
here. After that, don't expect much, unless you're a genius and have a
skill or skills they absolutely can't do without. Beyond that it rather
sucks in the area of compensation.
Management in the IT area leaves some to be desired as well. The mangers
are all techies who don't have a real grasp of leadership. From what
I've
seen, my boss is the best among them, but he's usually busier than a
one-legged man in a butt kicking contest. He doesn't have time to
manage,
because he's barraged by technical issues from those above him with a
desire
to micro manage.
If I've painted a bleak picture... well. It's a job, and it does provide
some real satisfaction. I enjoy being in charge of a few multi-million
dollar systems, fixing and making adjustments on them. But I guess I
could
get that most anywhere
