Job Title Workplace Survey
Manager 1-Program Management The aircraft industry is still reeling from the recession and sales have not yet picked up significantly. Our company has been able to perform even within this market and is expecting a return toward the end of 2005. People: Midwestern culture. Somewhat country like and laid back. Not very driven as an organization and family seems to be the most important to everyone. Current situation: We are currently undergoing a significant amount of outsourcing and downsizing. We will reduce another 10% by the end of 2006 as a minimum. Currently we fabricate and assemble aircraft, when it is all over we will only assemble integrate and test the 8 product lines we build. Our CEO is the corporate diversity chairman and we strive for diversity throughout the organization, it is a work in progress. Raytheon has a history of being a white male dominated company, but under our last two corporate CEO's we have made significant strides to correct this. Raytheon is a large company and there is always room for advancement if you are willing to relocate. Within Raytheon Aircraft the advancement opportunities are limited due to the significant amount of downsizing. The normal working day can start as early as 6:30am and end as late as 6:00pm. We have a large amount of hourly employees who make up the bulk of those in by 6:30am but there are some salary positions that work a standard week that is around 50 hours. The expectation is that most salary overtime is worked unpaid, but there are concessions for working extra hours. Vacation days accrue annually, two weeks up to 8 years then 3 weeks up to 15 years service. We always get the week of Christmas off and there is an annual shutdown the first two weeks of the year where most operations are halted for maintenance and as a cost reduction. Dress code is loose business casual. If you position has you on the shop floor as a support function, it is often acceptable to wear jeans. Six Sigma is the standard for process improvement and the company is very serious about it. If you don't like process improvement initiatives, Raytheon is not the place for you.
