Working for the Saudis has its cultural stresses, and peculiar chaotic
management style of no-planning or coordination; however, the locals
treat Americans with the upmost respect and friendship.
Working for RAYMES as a sub-contractor (to satisfy local royal money
laundering and an inbred job patronage system) has been unusual. Most
major military product orientated firms have the cream of management,
but RAYMES seems to suffer from a lack of new blood, sensitive
management personalities, and a dedication to keeping the office types
in their jobs, not bringing the money into the corporate coffers, rather
than retaining a loyal, talented technical workforce.
Recent decisions on evacuating dependents, withholding annual extension
bonuses have compounded, frustrated, and alienated the work force. As a
prior Program and project manager, and Systems Integration Engineer for
the DoD, I am apalled that the USA-based management team allow amateur
handling of their overseas personal to continue, especially in light of
the terrorist threats, real or implied.
What made Raytheon respected, the can-do anything and initiative of the
technical workforce, has been forgotten. Getting a MBA is a
breeze....having the years of experience to properly use it and lead
people is another issue....and trying to deal with intelligent labor up
to and including engineers requires sincerity, honesty, decisions based
on facts, and an eye on what's best for the company, and not the local
club of office personnel.....the culture here in RAYMES is at best
amateurish...had I been on the government end of the contract, the
leadership here would have been warned, and the workers protected and
compensated for the difficult working environment at present.
The management here needs flushed out, retention of the talented and
experienced work force needs major attention, and a new focus on the
product, customer, and future market for Raytheon products here requires
a major evaluation.
