Putnam Investments is an excellent company to work for; given you are
provided the opportunity to work under a manager/supervisor who is
respectable, honest and provide appropriate coaching prior to moving to
taking disciplanry action. The days are long, the pay is mediocre at
best and in most instances your contributions will be rewarded.
I had the opportunity to work under a top notch Vice President when I
began with the company in 1998 and was promoted on an annual basis.
However, I had the unfortunate luck of accepting a Team Leader, which
was an exciting opportunity initially, under a new manager whose head is
stuck squarely up her ass. No sense of direction, inability to
effictively manage a staff and consistantly critical of and disrespctful
to everyone - including her own manager and above. This particular
manager was a paranoid schizophrenic who didn't know what end was up or
down and loved to hear her own voice, ultimatley never allowing herself
to listen to input from anyone.
I would suggest working in the Transfer Agent - HR and management are
extremely capable of thier jobs whereas Defined Contribution is a
complete mess. For example, a Managing Director "resigned" because he
would cover plan variances by adjusting money to and from other plans.
This was found in an audit and as you can imagine this would make one
wonder if your company made financial contributions to another company.
Morale of the story, Defined Contribution is run with shady, unethical
people from the top down.
