Working for Putnam was very stressful, one of my co-workers constantly
tried to shove his job responsibilities on to me which in the end
resulted with him forcing to resign. My team leader constantly signaled
me out if I was 5 minutes late even when I wasn't and often accussed me
of being late for lunch which never happened, there were times when I
did not take a lunch and I did not get paid for it. It was very hard for
me to take vacation because there was always a reason or veiled threat
as to why I couldn't take it. When I mentioned that I was considering
joining The National Guard I was told by my Team Leader that my job
would not be held for me, which I found out later was illegal for them
to do. Except for one occasion any time I stayed after my schedule time
I was not given over time, but comp time which I was never allowed to
use, also when I termed my employment my Team Leader claimed that I used
all my comp time which I did not do. Opportunities for advancement were
slim to none. The dress code varied depending on who was your Team
Manager, I was told that wearing beige colored slacks and a light brown
sweater were not considered good enough to wear and that my shoes (brown
pair of business casual shoes) wear not to be worn again, but this was
after I wore the outfit several times, and yet people were walking
around in cargo pants and less than professional shirts and blouses.
Every time I had to make a doctor's appointment during work hours, I was
forced cancel it because of veiled threats from my Team Leader about it
reflecting on my pay raise, which the two years I worked there I never
got a pay raise, and I also was not allowed to use comp time to make the
appointments. I was back stabbed several times by my Team Leader for
work that I did but never got credit for, like my Team Leader was
responsible for reporting the previous days plan balancing figures and
reasons for variations on stock numebrs (gains, loss, adjustments), but
yet I was doing the work and she often turned it in without letting
anyone know that she had someone on the team help her. There were times
when she left material on my desk that she only was suppose to do, and
when I couldn't do it (the paperwork would require that a Team Leader
needed to get a Managers signature), she would try to blame me because
it was time sensitive material.
Putnam is a very disorganized and confusing place to work for. They
change their procedure policies too often and then they don't properly
notify the necessary employees of the changes until that employee gets
reprimanded for using an old procedure, for example I was put in charge
of issueing pin numbers for 401k particpant within the Mid-Market
region. My Team Leader gave me the wrong procedures to do it and then
tried to lay the blame on me again, the procedures she gave me were two
years old, I had asked several times if they were the right procedures I
was told yes and to stop questioning her about it. I then found out that
the assinged designation that I was given to handle pins was suppose to
be closed the previous year ( alot of phone reps also did not know this
and continued to send pin requests to that designation), I was then told
that I was not suppose to be apart of the process at all. Also if a
check had to overnighted we had to get a managers signature, but the
work flow department required that everything be typed on the sheet
which meant we had to wait until 1:00 or later to type the check numbers
and by that time all the managers would convently take lunch at the same
time leaving no one to sign for the overnight, or they would be in a
meeting and not be disturbed. Also if a manager were found they would
get upset because they weren't suppose to be singing for another
manager's team. On more than one occassion check numbers did not go out
until after 3pm and those of us who were responsible for the overnighted
checks were not allowed to go to lunch until the check numbers posted.
If you are not apart of management then working for Putnam is not worth
working for. I ended up with insomnia, pent up anger, stomach problems,
and undo stress. While working there I had to be on stress medication
and stomach medication. Once I left there all my medical problems
stopped.
