Salaries are competitive. The rule of thumb is the company will compare itself
to other major companies in the area and match itself with them, but being in
the
top 10% of the packages out there for the same position among the surveyed
companies. Increases are from 4 to 11% annually depending on your performance
(as it is in balck and white), but in reality your increases are based in very
sistematic way of "bands" 1-10. Say you come in as band 2 (most MBA) but your
package is very very competitive because you come from Wharton...what happens in
the years to come is that your annual increase is a lot lower than perhaps
somebody from a mid-tier school (also band 2) because you are "high in the
curve"with little room to grow and the mid-tier band 2 a lot of room to grow.
The net effect is that after say three to five years everybody evens out their
salaries within their bands.
