Polo Ralph Lauren was an exciting company to work for until recent
years. You were employed by the most respected man in the fashion
industry and one of the most admired labels in the world. Image was
everything to Polo. Beautiful stores, impactful advertising and a very
ambitious working environment. Unfortunately over time Polo has lost
it's "niche" in the industry. It is no longer considered a high-end
or "better" apparel brand and competes more with lower to mid priced
labels than true "designer" labels. It is considered by many working
for the company to be a high priced Gap, which coincidentally is where
many of the current executives for the company have come from. These
executives have not only lowered the expectation of product standards
and customer service but they have also made employment at the company
less than exciting. It is an operationally run environment with little
emphasis on it's people, product or customer. Unless culture changes
at the company perhaps Ralph will find himself in a similiar
predicament as his rival Calvin Klein?
