Pitney Bowes is a financially healthy company, but has many clients that
are reducing their expenditures. In anticipation of leaner times ahead,
Pitney Bowes began a multi-million dollar cost-saving program on
1/1/2003. There was company-wide reduction in workforce and spending
was slashed. Employee morale, which was high when I began, suffered as
staff cuts were made and travel and expense budgets were reduced or
eliminated. The pressure to drive sales forward and cut costs is
intense. The only positions that are safe are those in sales, or off-
site employees which are protected by client-contract headcount
stipulations
