One benefit of working at my company is that it is steady work which is great.
One drawback to working here, however, is that the pay is relatively low in
comparison to others doing the same type of work in the industry. When I
started
with the company as an associate producer, I had no benefits and was grossly
underpaid at $600/wk. When I was transferred to my current position 9 months
later, I was given a bump in title and a $200/wk. raise. I could not complain
becasue it was a raise, but I was still below the norm in comparison to others
in
town with the same title. After 1 year on the same show, I was then given
another raise for $100/wk. but I had to ask or it would have been quietly swept
under the table. Because I am getting raises, I cannot complain, but the pay is
still low and with the increasing competition out there, it is often tempting to
look elsewhere. Still, while there are no stock options, there are vacation
days. Year 0-1 is 0.5 days a month. After the first year it is 5 days
automatically along with acruing 0.5 days a month. Years 2-4 are 2 weeks
vacation and Years 5 and over are 3 weeks. They do offer a 401k but it is not
matching and they also contribute to health insurance but even as a young,
healthy, single woman, I found their plan to be so high that I stuck with my
original plan. No matter how many years you have been employed, there is also a
non-paying 2 week hiatus at Christmas which never seems to work out well
financially though the time off is desperately needed. IF you have to work more
than 5 days in a row they do encourage you to take a comp day either the week
before or immediately following so as to avoid burnout and often we will have
company parties of various sizes but there really are no special perks.
