| Segment Producer |
Since it's inception 6 years ago with only a couple of show ideas and a
handful of employees, to now becoming a major player in the industry
with over 100 employees, more than 40 shows under their belt (and
usually 11-15 going at any one time)and an around the clock, in house,
post production facility, I'd say the overall outlook for this company
is pretty strong. The owners found a market that was on the rise, they
tapped into it and they learned how to do what they do better than most
of their competition. Now they are basically running a well oiled
machine that knows how to turn a profit and they are still going
strong. So strong in fact, they are hoping to take on new projects in
the very near future that will catapolt them to a different category
altogether. Like any company, however, there are a few drawbacks. In
this case, the pay is defintely one of them, therefore, there is
constant grumbling among the employees. Also, though this is a well
oiled machine, it can also be very mundane and formulaic at times.
That combined with the sheer number of shows expected, can result in
burn out, especially when artistic people are not feeling challenged or
inspired by their work. Finally, there are a lot of areas of
production as there are many genres and styles of movies and
television. This business is based very much on who you know and
paying your dues, so while this company is great at what they do,
currently, they are very specified, thus, though there is room for
growth, it is often limited to a particualar style. If someone decides
they want to cross genres, then all the advancement in the world won't
make a difference. They will still have to start at the bottom if they
go on to something new. This can often lead an employee feeling pigeon
holed and like they are not advancing their career and that is never
good.
