When I arrived for my interview, armed with agenda, the first
interviewer was not expecting me (he never received his agenda). This
put everyone behind by at least half an hour. The first thing they did
was to give me a computer test to assess my knowledge of MS office suite
software. The recruiter then interviewed me and sent me on my way up the
street to another office. It was there that I was interviewed by an
associate director and three project managers. One manager kept
asking "what if this scenario occurred..." -type questions. His
colleagues were obviously displeased with him. He was a real smarty
pants in the interview, which completely unnerved me. I was a wreck when
I left the office and was embarrassed that I wasn't given a "normal"
interview. The worst thing is that I gave a list of people I knew at my
current employer who had interviewed with PPD and who had accepted job
offers with PPD (to say I was so excited to possibly be working with
them at PPD)---there were 4 people---and even though I asked for the
information to go no further than his office door, the recruiter
forwarded the names to another PPD recruiter, who forwarded the names to
a former employee at our company who was now at PPD---she called a
director at our employer and gave her the names, resulting in the firing
of one of my co-workers; the only one who had not yet given notice of
departure. We complained to both our HR director and to the PPD HR
department, but the damage was already done. It's awful when you can't
trust a company to keep a confidence. I know in speaking with several
people who have interviewed with PPD that privacy and confidentiality is
a cause for concern when interviewing (for example, many potential
employees are interviewed in "The Glass Bowl" in the Wilmington NC
office---where anyone walking by can see you). If you are interviewing
with them, make sure that you ask for confidentiality and that you are
not put in that "glass bowl" room!
