| Marketing Summer Associate |
The culture at Pfizer Headquarters is very intense. Marketing Managers
tend to work long hours. However, during the summer, there are
companywide halfday Fridays. The dress code is business casual, and a
typical workday in marketing is 9 am - 7 pm. The marketing hierarchy
within Pfizer is as follows: Marketing Associate, Marketing Manager,
Sr. Marketing Manager, Director, Team Leader. There are a growing
number of females in director/team leader positions. However, there are
very few African Americans within these positions. One of the things
that Pfizer lacks is a formal mentorship program. In my opinion, this
is critical to a new hire's success, since the company lives and dies
by its sink or swim culture. There's no real training for new hires, at
least when it comes to marketing. In some ways, Pfizer is almost
arrogant in that it expects new employees to already know everything.
As with any other company, it's important to have a good manager. I
have seen situations at Pfizer where Team Leaders talked down to the
marketing managers on their team.
