As with all pharmaceutical companies, at this point in time much of our
success or failure is going to be dependent on the political
environment. We on whole are targeted as the bad guys in the health
care industry despite the fact that medicines can decrease the need for
expensive hospital stays or surgery and the total cost for all
perscription medicines is on 5-7% of the total health care budget in the
U.S. Currently the U.S. is the only country where price controls are
not in place. This does mean that the U.S is subsidizing the entire
world's perscriptions, but the only place where medicines are coming out
of are american companies where there is still a financial incentive to
develop drugs which is an extremely costly and risky venture. We do
have good people at the helm and have a vision for success, but so much
is dependent on things we can not control. We are the largest
pharmaceutical company in the world and as such are a big target, but we
are also very cognizant of this and work very hard to demonstrate our
desire to be a valued company to consumers and employess alike.
