Corporate culture tends to value team players, so conformity and
obedience are expected in the rank and file. Rank and file who overstep
are often viewed as troublemakers and ostracized. Independent and
creative thinking is limited to the management class. However, since
being a team player is a prerequisite for promotion, most managers tend
to be yes people, who ignore problems and tell senior management what
they want to hear. Rank and file are treated as second class citizens
and mostly ignored. Training, mentoring, and opportunities for
advancement are mostly limited to the management class, who get good
raises and bonuses. Sr. management is becoming aware of these issues
from the employee feedback survey and is taking some action to correct
the imbalance between the two classes.
Diversity is good in the rank and file, but management is not very
diversified. Most tapped for promotion are young white males.
Opportunities for advancement are hard to come by, because you have to be
handpicked, but there are no promotion criteria, so promotions seem to be
arbitrary.
Dress code is business casual with casual dress (jeans) on Fridays. Work
hours are flexible, as long as you get the work done and are present
during core hours, 10-3.
