Perot Systems has a professional working environment. Dress is normally
business casual, although a tie is often expected when working with
clients.
Perot Systems is a very ethical company. You will be taking training
courses on ethics and expect to make online commitments. Upper and
middle management has a strong respect for all employees. Communication
is very good. Expect to get random surveys on how to improve mangement,
communications, etc. The last time I checked the financials, Mr. Ross
Perot and Mr. Ross Perot Jr. did not draw a salary or commissions.
There stake is there stock ownership. This impressed me tremendously.
They are strongly committed to growning the company rather than swan
diving off their compensation.
Perot Systems wants you to personally develop. The word is that
everyone gets two weeks of training. However, get a committment from
your supervisor before you hire because many make all sorts of excuses
to avoid the loss of time.
Effort is planned reasonably well with some mishaps requiring extra
hours. It is not uncommon to work long hours prior to delivery or start
up of service. Many of the mishaps are preventable because project
management doesn't seem to throttle up until deadlines approach. Risk
management and mitigation is poor. Upper management has been pushing
more project management training (I think they have recognised the
problem). Bottom line, if your applying for a role such as test,
quality, production support, user training, etc. you need to be very
prepared to take heat for the lack of effective project management.
Reviews are a bit strange. You have to write your own review and rate
yourself. Then you volly back and forth with your supervisor until you
are both happy. Dotted line managers also weigh in to your final
rating. It's modern but still has the same old problems - managers rate
inconsistently and I generally get better reviews in better economic
time (i.e. more adjustment money is available). Haven't worked for a
company yet that has addressed these problems.
CAUTION: They are plugged into India. Consider this when applying for a
position that can be easily offshored.
All in all, I highly recommend working for Perot Systems!
