I had researched PeopleSoft and heard what a people oriented company it
was -"Was" being the key word. I was told by an HR person that the
software was so easy to sell, a monkey could sell it, and if the monkey
could not sell it, they would just get another monkey. Needless to say,
that was not encouraging as to a long-term career with the company.
However, I feel it was pretty reflective of the corporate philosophy -
you are great as long as you exceed your numbers, but even with the
economic crisis, if numbers were not made, you were gone. I have heard
managers say (off the record) that they were told if there employees
were not in the top 10% of producers, to get rid of them as there were
plenty of other motivated people on the street. The only real
advancement was keeping your job. Everyone was required to be in the
office each day when not in front of a prospect, which was a sharp
contrast from what I understand the guidelines had been previously
