| Pasminco Budel Zink |
After a few years of recession and extremely low metal prices, the
situation seems to change as prices have gone up over the last months.
The Pasminco Group has gone through a 2,5 year period of administration
and will come out of this in April 2004. During the last year there has
been a reorganisation and a lot of focus on cost reductions. This has
had a big impact on the morale of the people, as these cost reduction
often hit back on the day to day work of the employees. As far as the
competition is concerned, they are also going through a bad period. For
companies that are more diversified than Pasminco it is easier to
survive as they have other businesses that balance the losses on the
metal side.
Strengths of the company are that it is now a debt free company. A
weakness is that investments have been postponed over the last years
which need to be made sooner or later. There is quite some money needed
to catch up with the backlog in maintenance and investments.
From an operational point of view all smelters and mines within the
Pasminco Group are running very well which is a competitive advantage.
In general my feeling is that the future looks promising for Pasminco.
