We were just a small entity within a world wide corporation called
Parker IPS(which stands for Industrial Profile Systems)located in
Livermore, California. Total number of employee's during the tech boom
was 21, that shrunk to 15 after the tech boom then we were bought out by
Parker Hannifin in 2003 and they reduced the work force down to 9 by
2004. This made possible by selecting a few individuals and increasing
their work loads and responsibilty's. Talk about a morale booster! Let
me just say that before we were bought out it was fun going to work
everyday even though I had to drive 60 miles 1 way. I loved my job and
the Company I worked for. Then it was all down hill after 2003. They
hired a Branch Manager during February 2003 who I very very very highly
recommended because I worked with her(in the IL branch) for a few months
when she was an engineer. Her management back ground was in retail(as I
found out later) and she had no clue how to run an industrial business.
I was required to work 9 hours a day and sometimes 10 or 11 when there
was a lot of work. She had mentioned to me one day while discussing the
work load that I shouldn't take breaks anymore. Also on 3 seperate
occasions she mentioned my salary and on the 3rd occasion was very
explicit mentioning that I was the highest paid person in the facility.
That's why I was let go and it was her plan from day 1!
There were no opportunities for advancement unless you were willing to
relocate to another part of the country or even world. Dress code was
typical.
