Culture is very different depending on what business unit you're in and
practices can be very competitive with each other. Dress code is fairly
lax, but is definitly business casual except on client sites.
Advancement should be very standard considering a scorecard approach is
used, but your division's management heads have a lot of sway, so if you
belong to one group, but the bulk of your utilisation comes from another
you could be passed over for promotion by your group because you're not
seen as adding value to your own group's initiatives. This of course
can be quite demotivating. The firm has a strong culture of networking
and who you know largely determines what jobs you get on. People are
expected to meet and develop relationships with as many people in other
practices as possible within the firm. As such, there's a big coffee
culture here. Training and development are definitely seen as key here
and everyone does a lot of training out at Sundrdge Park Conference
Centre, employees are provided with 5 days a year but analysts and
consultants generally take far more than this their first few years,
especially in this economy. Each practice also has their own training
programs which last a year to share knowledge and develop junior
consultants. It is possible to become involved in other group's
training as well if you have an interest. The culture here is very
penny pinching and the firm pretty much doesn't provide any of the perks
available elsewhere (mobile phone payments, lunch, broadband
connections, evening meals, taxis etc.)
