| Deputy Planning Manager(Projects) |
Actually, the date will be 3/1984.
I was called for interview from my the then location in Calcutta to the
company's HQ in Assam. The company took great care about my travel and
comfortable stay there, for three days. There was one round of interview
and out of 12 candidates for one position, I was the last candidate. I
was interviewed by the then GM (Planning), Chief Engineer(Pipeline) and
Manager Personnel. Most of the technical questioning was done by the CE
(Pipeline) though I was to work under the GM(Planning). He was a very
jovial person and even today I hold him in highest regards and esteem.
Towards the end of the interview, he, as the chairman of selection
committee told me jokingly that prior to joining the company in Assam ,
he was working in Paris (France) and when he stepped down from the
flight at that desolate corner of India, it was indeeed a great leap
forward from Paris to Duliajan (name of the place ,means life hanging
from a cradle). As I had arrived from Dubai a few days back for the
interview , he asked me if I am bold enough to leap forward from Dubai
to Duiajan. I could sense that I have been selected. Next day was the
medical examinations and the third day, we were taken round the oil
field installations.
