| Experienced Senior Accountant |
Novogradac & Company LLP is a medium-sized public accounting firm
headquartered in San Francisco with satellite offices in Austin, Ohio,
Atlanta and Maryland. We are in the business of servicing clients that
invest in developing affordable housing for low-income families or
seniors. There are about 100 professionals in the firm and half of
them are recent graduates from major universities in the U.S. Since
most of the professionals are in their 20s, the atmosphere in the
office is very upbeat and lively. Most partners at our firm are in
their early 40s and are very eager to share their experience and
knowledge with professional in the firm. We have formal training
sessions every week taught by partners.
One thing I like the most about our firm is that we have professionsls
from different schools, different part of the country, and of different
ethnic background. It's been our firm's priority to bring diversity to
our offices. As all of your should know, accountants are not the bean-
counter of old. We have been increasingly diversified in not only
providing clients with traditional audit and tax preparation, but w
have been also holding conferences in different states to gather
different players in our industry (i.e. developers, investors,
syndicators, attorneys, accountants, governmental agencies, etc.) to
provide networking opportunities.
Dress code at our firm is business casual. Shirt and Khakis are
standard for male professional and shirt and pants for females. We do
have "casual Fridays" dress code, which means jeans are okay.
As far as advancement, public accounting has got to be one of the most
dynamic area of business there is. We typically hire 15-20 recent
grads and few experienced accounts from other firms a year (15 - 20% of
firm size) but stand to lose approx. 10 professionals every year as
well. The departures are typically middle-management personnel leaving
to work for clients as CFOs or Managers. They are common in this
industry. I am an experienced senior account that is working directly
with a partner. I cannot express how much I have been taught and how
greatful I am to be working for this company. I cannot imaging working
for an IBM type sized company and be lost without an identity.
Our firm has the lofty goal of growing its revenue by 20% every year.
Which means advancement opportunities are there for all professional
that are assets to the firm. We are commited to hire quality
professionals, and due to the demand for our service, we have been able
to hire many well qualified professionals in the last 2-3 years.
Recently, we have been recognized as the top 10 accounting firms in the
San Francisco area in terms of size.
I was not determined to be an accountant when I graduated. But after
being with this company for 4 years I am still working here and am
looking for more.
