Overall outlook is very good. North Fork Bank is thriving in its niche
as a "big" yet "local" bank. It takes clients, at least in commercial
real estate, that it is comfortable with. It is not a transactional
driven shop. Relationships are seen to be more important. Because of
this context, potential deals are often killed, just because someone
isn't comfortable with the principals. In general, employees are happy
with the company. If you want to work here, just know the right people
and go from there. In the next few years, I feel that North Fork Bank
will be an attractive potential acquisition for a bank looking to expand
its exposure into the tri state area. With consolidation the current
trend, I wouldnt be suprised if this happened in, say, 5 years. A bank
like wells fargo, barclays, a german bank, etc. would all be on my list
for potential buyers. This won't happen immediately, since Kanas (the
Chairman and CEO) enjoys his job too much. Once he retires though,
North Fork Bank will be acuired.
