I have been happily employed at Nextel since August, 1999. Since that
time, I've been promoted twice. There are many things I appreciate
about Nextel as my employer. Among them, Nextel's focus on diversity
and an all-inclusive workplace; Nextel's commitment to Extreme Integrity
and Code of Corporate Conduct; Nextel promotes from within, when
possible; Nextel is commited to recognizing those who exceed expectation
while maintaining high levels of integrity. Top Management personnel
lead by example and have zero tolerance for violations of the Code of
Corporate Conduct. Nextel committed to treating people with fairness,
respect and value. Employees are treated as "internal customers" who
have invested in Nextel and deserve a return on their investment.
Nextel is equally commited to external customers (i.e. subscribers,
share holders, Associates, Partners, etc.).
Each year, Nextel reaches out to those in need by contributing various
resources. Employees are encouraged to contribute time to those in
need. When possible, Nextel will provide employees to assist during a
major cause (i.e. 9-11, Emergency Response Teams, Special Olympics,
Educational Support).
Our company offers an excellent benefits package. Last year, Nextel
provided a customized Total Compensation Rewards Summary to each
employee. Nextel's investment in individual employees total
compensation was summarized and mailed in booklet form to the residence
of each employee. The company plans to provide this information
annually. Receiving the customized summary was a welcomed reward by all
employees.
Our C.O.O. hosts an all-hands conference call every quarter. At that
time, he and other officers within the company share results, goals,
direction and their thanks to all who contributed to the success of the
company. Afterwards, phone lines are opened for questions and comments.
Each year, Nextel makes available to all employees an Employee Opinion
Survey. The survey is confidential, and gives everyone a chance to
voice their likes, dislikes and wishes with regards to the company as an
employer, and as a business. An independent company issues the survey
and calculates the results. Once the results are calculated, they are
reviewed at all levels within the company. Areas of strength and
weakness are carefully studied. Afterwards, action plans for improvement
are developed and implemented. Even when Nextel receives very positive
ratings in areas, the company still strives for improvement.
Nextel has an open door policy. A non-discriminatory approach is used
with everyone. Additionally, employees receive training and development
programs throughout all levels of the company. Standards for Excellence
are a major focus. Employees are required to complete diversity in the
workplace training. Quarterly career development plans are instituted.
The development plans focus on career paths recommended by management
and/or desired by the individual employee for advancement within the
company.
Nextel, at every level of the company focuses on P+S=V (People +
Services = Value). It is my opinion that Nextel operates in a manner
which promotes honesty, integrity and fairness toward all employees and
customers. I am very proud and fortunate to work for such an incredible
company. Nextel seeks and retains honest, hard working employees who
contribute to the companies success. I can't imagine ever desiring to
change my place of employment.
In closing, I would like to say that if someone is honest, of high
integrity, goal oriented and has the desire to grow with an innovative,
